Physics 3-31-14 Sound Intensity and Resonance

PHYSICS: Great applications of sound today – sound intensity and resonance!!

Lab tomorrow! Be sure and check the syllabus for the thLAB that you will do at home and the other one that you will actually do in class tomorrow.

Couple of items to apply for discussion – so how does the whole hearing thing work? I mean, I know the little bones in your ear move, but why? Is resonance involved? Great item for application/discussion. And here’s another – why would different violins produce different sounds? I mean, is a Stradavarius valued so highly just because of the name? Let’s talk more about that!

Chemistry 3-31-14 Intro to Chemical Bonds

CHEMISTRY: Welcome back to chemistry! Ready to begin another chapter? Here’s the first lesson from chapter 6, the introduction to chemical bonds. Don’t you wish all the problems would be this hard?!

Hon Chemistry 3-31-14 Chapter 8 Overview

HON CHEMISTRY: Great overview today – for both “tests” – the written one tomorrow, and the lab one on Wednesday!

Have you been studying? Practice tonight (!!!) and also make sure you have everything memorized. You can get help in memorizing the 17 types of chemical reactions on quizlet.com (and also on the polyatomic ions from last semester). Here’s a link to the 17 types of reactions on quizlet that Nicholas did a couple of years ago – http://quizlet.com/11793692/chemistry-chemical-reactions-flash-cards/.

Another source of help is your online textbook at my.hrw.com. Click on the “Visual Concepts” or “Review Activities” tabs at the top of the chapter page for the extra tutorials and quizes. And, of course, the review activities at sciencegeek.net would be great practice as well. I love you and I’ll be praying for you as you study for your test!!

Physics 3-26-14 Waves

PHYSICS: Hey guys! Here’s the lecture on the properties of waves. Problems are pretty simple for you, I think. Do you remember the main formula from chemistry? Speed = wavelength x frequency (c = λf).

Easy peasy – and don’t forget the applications!

Hon Chemistry 3-26-14 The Activity Series

HON CHEMISTRY: Well, here it is, the last of the lectures from chapter 8. A couple of things – make sure you’ve memorized the activity series, but just as importantly, make sure you know how to use it! Those guidelines I gave you in class should really help. Now, lets go out and see if you can apply what you’ve learned!

Chemistry 3-25-14 Chapter 5 Test Review

CHEMISTRY: God bless as you study for your test on chapter 5! Here’s the overview we did in class today. Did it help?

Also, have you gone back to the Chapter 5 stuff to know/study suggestion sheet on Edline? What about the answers to the possible discussion questions? Good luck studying. I’ll be praying for you!!

Hon Chemistry 3-25-14 Double Replacement & Combustion Reactions

HON CHEMISTRY: You realize what we did? We finished all 17 types of reactions today!

Careful when you work tonight’s homework! For all single replacement reactions and reactions involving forming or decomposing oxide, be sure and refer to the Activity Series. We’ll talk more about it in class tomorrow as well. Yes, you will get to memorize it!

Are you working on memorizing all 17 types of reactions for Thursday – and forever?! But don’t just memorize them. Make sure you can apply them as well. When you start to work any equation, first determine what type of reaction it is, then figure out what rule applies and follow it to determine the products. I believe in you! You can do it!! (and yes, I realize I am repeating myself, but I do and you can!)
