HON CHEMISTRY – Wow! Learned some Greek today, huh? Sig figs may seem a little confusing to begin with, but they are extremely important to learn for the rest of the year. Here’s the lecture from Tuesday on using sig figs in measuring and calculations. Do you need some practice? And how are you doing on memorizing the SI prefixes and units? Let’s put it all to good use tomorrow! π
Is there a set date for a quiz over memorizing the prefixes of the base units? (i.e. Mega-, Terra-, deci-, etc.)
Luke – The general rule is about 2 days after I assign it.
Also thank you so much for posting these videos. I didn’t know I could do scientific notation on my calculator, but your tutorial was very helpful!
Luke – You are welcome! Glad it helped!!
Hey Ms. Skinner! If it tells us to write our answer in scientific notation, and the problem is something like 0.000 034 50, do we need to write the answer as .345 x 10-5? Or do we need to include that zero and make it 3.450?
Bekah – Has to be one, and just one, number to the left of the decimal; so 3.450.
Does this work?
Ok it works
