Chemistry 1-27-10 Covalent Bonds

Filed Under (Chemistry Notes & Review) by on January 27, 2010 and tagged , , ,

CHEMISTRY: Here’s the lecture from Wednesday on covalent bonds. We’ll start Lewis structures on Friday! Questions about Science In the News? Here it is – if you saw the video on Tuesday or will see it Thursday, you’ll answer the video questions instead of doing the Science In the News. If you don’t see the video, just do a regular Science In the News for Friday. We’ll do the special topic on artificial sweeteners next week, so save that one, if you’ve already done it.

C-C is longer than C-N but it needs more Bond Energy, why?

if it is non polar, does that mean it’s under 0.3?

whats the different between polar and non-polar bonds.

in a polar bond it’s like the electrons are shared unequally between the atoms, giving one side a slightly negative charge and the other a slightly positive charge. in a nonpolar bond the electrons are shared equally.

non-poplr bonds occurs when the electrongativits are identical and polar bonds is mmore correctly termed ioic bonding and occurs when both postive and negative and on side has more

If the bond length is long does that mean that the bond strength is stronger or weaker?

Carbon always goes in the middle and hydrogen never goes in the middle, and after that i think its in the order it list or which ever one has the least. not sure though
