Chemistry 10-22-09 Atomic Number & Mass Number

CHEMISTRY: Hey guys, here’s the last of our discussion on the discovery of the structure of the atom – Chadwick and the neutron. Can you believe atoms are that small – and neutron even waaaaaay smaller! Here’s another picture from the IBM Almaden Research Center of atoms. These are iron atoms on top of copper. Being able to move atoms around like this was a giant leap in the field of nanotechnology! (Oops, I did it again! :) )

    what are the symbols for atmoic number and mass number again? i always get them mixed up.

    I think it’s really interesting that nanotechnologists take the time to spell things or make shapes out of atoms. It seems kind of pointless at first, but it does have practical uses.
