CHEMISTRY: Great job on that lab today! You set a land speed record, and no hints. Good job! Just in case you were out today, here’s what we did….

Hey Jeeen Yoon, the formula for chalk is calcium carbonate.

JeeEn, Ms. Skinner is talking about the lab we did, not an actual “chalk” formula. We used the Q formula to figure out how many moles were in our name based on the difference of the masses before and after we wrote our name.

Hello! I was wondering, do e have to write the chemical formula after the conversion factor every time we work a molar mass problem?

AAH! I meant we not e.

emily yes you always have to write the formula to get credit for it

I was wondering if we had to memorize the chemical names and formulas of all the things we looked up like chalk, dry ice etc. ?

My original idea for the chalk lab was weigh a piece of paper and subtract that from the total after you wrote your name on it and weighed it again i heard you say it wouldnt work as well, would it still be somewhat close? or would the calculations be way off?

    Daniel H Reply:

no the chalk on the paper idea does not work at all, the paper will actually weigh less when massed after you have written on it. not sure how or why though…

for the test do we only have to memorize the polyatomic ions and the acids? just wondering =]
    thanks
