    What is formula mass?

    Mary Gates Reply:

John- It’s like the mass of an ion, formula unit, or molecule and the sum of the masses of al the atoms in a chemical formula :)

  2.   Emma Says:

is the only difference in molar mass and formula mass that you use u for formula and grams or g/mol?

  3.   Kara Says:

What do you do if you have more than one atom of something when you are calculating formula mass?

  5.   Britteny Hudson Says:

John, formula mass is the sum of all the mass’ of the atoms in one formula.

    Austin Welch Reply:

Formula mass is the mass of a molecule, ion or formula unit and the sum of mass of all atoms in the chemical formula. Its unit is amu.

jimbo: the molar mass is calculated by summing the masses of the elements present in a mole.

    Katherine Robinson Reply:

Formula mass is the mass of one atom, one molecule, or one formula unit. It’s measured in amu or u. Molar mass is the mass of one mole of that compound, 6.022 * 10 >23 atoms, molecules, or formula units. It’s measured in grams.
